The 2027 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, Grand Sport, Grand Sport X, Z06, ZR1, and ZR1X
The 2027 model year is the biggest shake-up of the C8 era since the mid-engine layout itself. The LT2 6.2L V8 that launched the C8 is retired, replaced by the all-new LS6 — a 6.7-liter, 535-horsepower naturally aspirated V8 that debuts GM's Gen 6 small-block family and revives one of the most storied engine names in Chevrolet history. Riding on that engine, the Grand Sport nameplate returns for the first time since 2019: a rear-wheel-drive, wide-body model slotted between the Stingray and Z06, revealed March 26, 2026 at Sebring. Later in the model year it is joined by the Grand Sport X, a 721-horsepower hybrid that pairs the LS6 with an electric front drive unit and takes over the all-wheel-drive mission from the discontinued E-Ray. The Z06, ZR1, and 1,250-hp ZR1X carry on unchanged at the top of the range. Orders opened April 16, 2026, and 2027 production began at Bowling Green in early June 2026, days after the final 2026 car rolled off the line. Production statistics will be added here as the model year progresses.

The New LS6 6.7L V8 — A Gen 6 Small Block
The heart of the 2027 story is the LS6, the first engine of GM's Gen 6 small-block generation and the new standard powerplant for the Stingray and Grand Sport. It keeps the cam-in-block pushrod architecture that has defined Corvette V8s since 1955, but nearly everything else is new: 6.7 liters of displacement, forged internals, a 13.0:1 compression ratio, combined direct and port fuel injection, a 95mm throttle body feeding a tunnel-ram-style intake, tri-Y exhaust headers, and a 6,600-rpm redline. At 535 horsepower and 520 lb-ft, it is the most powerful standard engine ever fitted to a Corvette and the torquiest naturally aspirated V8 Chevrolet has ever built. The Active Valve Performance Exhaust is standard on every LS6-powered car. The name itself is a deep pull from the archives — "LS6" previously adorned the 425-hp 454 big-block of 1971 and the 385/405-hp 5.7L V8 of the 2001–2004 C5 Z06.
Grand Sport and Grand Sport X
The Grand Sport badge has appeared exactly once per generation era since Zora Arkus-Duntov's five lightweight 1963 racers: the Admiral Blue 1996 C4 send-off, the wide-body C6 Grand Sport of 2010, and the C7 version of 2017. The 2027 car follows the classic formula — the wide body and chassis hardware of the Z06 paired with the standard engine — and adds a few firsts of its own:
- Z06-style wide bodywork and standard Magnetic Ride Control on both Grand Sport models.
- A center-exit quad exhaust — the first ever fitted to a pushrod-powered Corvette.
- Exclusive 10-spoke forged aluminum wheels.
- New Z52 Sport and Z52 Track performance packages; the Track package brings J57 carbon-ceramic brakes and a full carbon-fiber aero kit.
- Coupe-only at launch, in keeping with its track-bred positioning.
- A Launch Edition with an exclusive Santorini Blue-Dipped interior.
- Admiral Blue Metallic joins the paint chart — a direct nod to the 1996 Grand Sport's signature color.
The Grand Sport X, arriving later in the model year, is the plot twist: it bolts the ZR1X's 186-horsepower electric front drive unit and 1.9-kWh battery to the LS6 for 721 combined horsepower and all-wheel drive, stepping into the role the E-Ray vacated after 2026 — and it is expected to out-accelerate the E-Ray's 2.5-second 0-60 run. Where the E-Ray wrapped hybrid power in grand-touring manners, the Grand Sport X aims the same hardware at outright performance.

The "Vehicle Identification Number" (VIN) remains on a plate on the inner vertical surface of
the left windshield pillar. Known 2027 decoder positions: the model year character in position
10 advances to V (T = 2026, V = 2027 — the letter U is never used), and
position 11 remains 5 for Bowling Green, Kentucky assembly. GM has not yet
published the full 2027 VIN card — new position 4&5 model codes for the Grand Sport
and Grand Sport X and the position 8 engine code for the LS6 will be added here once released.
